PSV have a star in the making in the form of Noni Mandueke, which explains why Premier League clubs have queued up in the past to sign him, and why Chelsea are reportedly willing to pay €30 million to snap him up.

The rise of the 20-year-old from Barnet is nothing new. Having left Tottenham’s academy to join PSC, he rapidly made an impression in the reserves and has translated that form to the first team.

His debut campaign saw him score seven goals in 24 Eredivisie outings only for injury to affect him during 2021/22 and for the first half of the 2022/23 campaign.

When he has been on the park, though, he has been a potent force who has proven himself a player with a bright future in the game.

What position does Noni Madueke play in?

Madueke can play on either wing or centrally as an attacking midfielder, but he predominately operates from the right.

How good is Noni Madueke?

There is little doubt that Madueke is incredibly highly rated. Back in March, after scoring against Fortuna Sittard, PSV boss Roger Schmidt lavished praise on him, via Sky Sports.

“He is able to read situations, get to the right positions and be in the right place,” said Schmidt. “He has a good sense of that, with his timing, and, technically, he has the skills when one-on-one.”

Madueke is very much a part of the new generation of English talent; his qualities include pace, directness, trickery and a superb tactical intelligence, just like Jude Bellingham, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka.

He carries the ball with superb close control, but natural ability is not what will define him.

As Schmidt suggests, it is his game intelligence which makes him stand out.

What clubs are interested in Noni Madueke?

A string of big clubs have been linked with Madueke in the recent past, including Premier League sides Wolves and Leicester. The big guns have also tracked his progress; Manchester United and Liverpool have both been linked with a transfer.

His injury issues, though, saw interest tail off a little until January 2023, when interest from Chelsea emerged. While ESPN reports that they launched a €30 million bid, it has been claimed that it would take a figure similar to that Liverpool paid for Cody Gakpo – at least €40m.

At the time, FootballTransfers valued him at €7.4m, largely because of his 18 months of injury problems.

When does Noni Madueke’s contract expire?

Having only joined PSV as a youth player in 2018 and making his first-team debut in January 2020, Madueke is tied down in Eindhoven for a while.

His initial deal expired in June 2024 but the player signed a new contract on better terms that will run until June 2025.
