Chelsea’s crisis grew deeper on Thursday as they suffered a 2-1 Premier League loss against Fulham away from home.

The defeat leaves the Stamford Bridge side 10 points outside the top four and unlikely to qualify for Champions League football next season, while manager Graham Potter’s job is coming increasingly under pressure after a string of poor results.

Despite a summer transfer window that saw Chelsea spend more money than any club previously in one single period, they are 10th in the league.

Thiago Silva’s wife took to Twitter to complain about the situation, slamming Potter’s options elsewhere on the field.

“If there was a Thiago Silva in attack and one in midfield with what we already have in defence…” she lamented.

It was a perspective that clearly resonated with supporters, who backed her take.

“11 Thiago Silvas would win us the league,” one suggested.

Another fan made a dig at Chelsea’s poor offensive record by saying: “Bring your small boys. They will play attack in the next game.”

Chelsea still spending

Meanwhile, the Blues are presently trying to spend their way out of their rut.

Potter’s side has already been furnished with four January transfer signings. David Datro Fofana has arrived from Molde in attack, though may depart on loan to get first-team experience, while Andrey Santos has joined from Santos. The most expensive purchase they have made is Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile.

Joao Felix is perhaps the most high-profile of the players to join up with the Blues, yet the on-loan Atletico Madrid attacker was sent off on debut against Fulham, meaning he will miss the next three games due to a ban – a huge blow for Chelsea given the expense of his arrival for just a short period and because of the number of injury problems they are already carrying in the squad.
