Bayern: Want deal for Man Utd transfer target more than signings

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting in action with Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich are prioritising a new contract for Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting over transfers in this window.

Bayern have been linked with a move for Eintracht Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani, who appeared for France at the World Cup in Qatar.

He has five goals and nine assists in 13 Bundesliga starts in the 2022-23 season.

There have also been reports of interest in Borussia Monchengladbach’s Marcus Thuram, who has 10 goals in 15 starts in the Bundesliga.

Thuram would be available for around €10 million this month because his contract runs out at the end of the season.

But Bayern are not interested in either, according to Sky Sport in Germany, given Choupo-Moting’s recent form.

The former Stoke and Paris Saint-Germain forward has filled the void left by Poland international Robert Lewandowski following his summer transfer to Barcelona.

Head coach Julian Nagelsmann has entrusted the veteran with regular gametime role at the Allianz Arena, where he repaid the faith six goals in six league starts.

Man Utd want Choupo-Moting

As a result of his impressive goal-scoring form, Choupo-Moting has emerged as a possible transfer target for Erik ten Hag’s Man Utd.

The Dutchman has enjoyed an upturn in form at Old Trafford after a worrying start to the Premier League season, with the addition of Casemiro in midfield helping the Red Devils climb up to fourth place after 17 games played.

However, the striker department remains an issue for Ten Hag’s side. Anthony Martial showed promise in pre-season, but he has only managed three league goals to date, while Cristiano Ronaldo has left the club for Al-Nassr.

Marcus Rashford has also been used as a centre forward, which isn’t his preferred role.

Therefore, Man Utd’s transfer priority remains a new striker, as it was during the summer transfer window.
