Arsenal transfer news: How much is target Mudryk’s asking price?

Mykhailo Mudryk, Shakhtar Donetsk, Arsenal, 2022/23

Shakhtar Donetsk have lowered their asking price for Arsenal target Mykhailo Mudryk, according to reports.

Mudryk is thought to be at the top of The Gunners’ Christmas shopping list as they look for signings to help lift the Premier League title.

Mikel Arteta’s side are leading the way ahead of the restart on Boxing Day, but will need strengthening if they are to hold off Manchester City.

Mudryk is the attacking reinforcement the north London club have identified, though his asking price has raised eyebrows.

Shakhtar had previously valued him at over £100 million, but David Ornstein reports that the figure will come down.

”Mudryk is the player they [Arsenal] want to sign. They followed him for a long time,” he told Hayters TV.

”He was on their list of potential candidates during the summer transfer window. They are in talks with Shakhtar, with the player’s representatives.

”Arsenal won’t want to go that high, I don’t think any club will. I think the likelihood is Shakhtar will come down in price when push comes to shove.”

How good is Mudryk?

A right-footed winger, Mudryk prefers lining up on the left-hand side where he can use his combination of skill and pace to cut inside and wreak havoc in the final third.

Shakhtar tend to use the same 4-2-3-1 system as Arsenal employ under Mikel Arteta and the hope is that Mudryk would adapt quickly to the Premier League, especially with his friend and compatriot Oleksandr Zinchenko already in the squad.

Mudryk was more of a playmaker last season, contributing two goals but seven assists from 11 games before the Ukrainian Premier League campaign was cut short.

But the 21-year-old has found goalscoring form in the 2022-23 season, netting seven times in the league as well as three in the Champions League.
